Part Blonde Tip # 103

When sending out an email to staff, even if you mentioned it is for charity donations - be very careful how you ask for men's underwear.

Happy Halloween

One of the things you learn living with a teacher is that there are certain holidays that most people see come and go and pay little attention. She last night got almost offended that I wasn't dressing up and rode to the rescue by deciding on my costume for me. She pulled out a poodle skirt and it was just adorable. I was skeptical of it fitting me though as she is much thinner than I am. She gave me a look and said it will fit, and it does. Note to those who may not know - poodle skirts are made from felt and very unflattering.

House update - They are working on a counter offer that I should see sometime today.

Oh and on a side note I have yet to see anyone else dressed up in the office. I must say though the roomie was adorable this morning as she dressed up as static cling. I almost have her convinced to move in with me when I get a new place as I will miss her terribly.

Cube Fairy is Funny.

Well last week I got moved to a cube which I think I mentioned is really right in the middle of everything. Now people seem to be getting a kick out of 'doing' things to my cube. This involves dropping things on my desk, tossing them over the cubie wall on their way to the kitchen - dear goodness people it may not look like it to you but this is really organized chaos! - or in the case of the funny cube fairy - placing other people's name tags in my cube. This started last week, and there were about 8 in my cube one morning. I came in this morning and there are 20 name tags in my cube and I laughed....hard. To give you an idea this is about 20% of the company and roughly 40% of the people working on my floor. I'd put them back but it really does amuse me.

My co-worker just looked in my cubicle and said - Good Lord! I am going to be amused all morning. He finds it funny that no one is really even missing their name tags.

So now the question is do I start the morning working on work or on the charity work. Decisions, decisions...

It's Thursday Already?

Both the roomie and I commented that spending the weekend at her parents house was like being at a resort. 4 girls and a hot tub on both Friday and Saturday night. The Friday night group has decided that some time next year we are going to Vegas together. I can't even start to imagine the trouble we will get into. I spent quite a few hours in front of the fire place with a book.

Monday I had to go to the dentist and have 3 fillings done and then go to the car dealer and find out why my engine light was on. It's some sensor thing and the big brother I never wanted is going to replace it for me so I don't have to pay labor, well other than being nice to him. We went out for coffee after work on Monday as we were both waiting for the last softball game of the season. I saw this coffee mug and had to have it.

I got moved over to my new desk at work and I miss the old one. That one was bigger and quieter but with people I talk to more often around me.

I have almost enough people to sign up for the turkey bowl, and I have been working on my part of organizing for charity events at work for the end of the year. I am working on getting donation boxes for the homeless shelter and soup kitchen together, and getting a group to go down and work there on a Thursday night.

As for me also in the last month to month in a half, I have been working to let go of some of the anger I have been holding onto in some cases for years. I have been apologizing to people that I felt like I owed it to, some took it better than others. The point is though that I didn't do it for them, I did it for me. I have one I still need to do today and it's one where I am not holding onto anger but apathy.

I am in a surprisingly good mood considering that the weather looks like this today. I like the new tires and give them a B+. I didn't have to use the 4wheel drive at all today and in some places the snow and slush was at least 3 inches deep especially as I got into Golden. We have blizzard like conditions. The snow is the really wet heavy kind and it just keeps on falling. I suppose that will mean a long drive to get to the eye doctor tonight but I hear that we will have sunshine sometime this afternoon. Blizzard conditions until noon then sunshine - I love Colorado!

Is It Friday Yet?

I have exited the middle of a power struggle at work. The old department I am leaving and the new department were both trying to load me up on work to prove that I was more important to their group. This lead to lots of stress for me, and I finally just decided I can't do it all and need to make the new job more important, and life has been better since then, well at least work life.

House Update: After their 10 days they decided not to accept or reject any of the offers but instead to put the house on the market at a higher price and see if they could get an offer at that price. *HUGE SIGH* Why is it everyone seems to think this is the month that I will finally learn patience?

I am very much looking forward to tomorrow night when the roomies parents are going out of town and we are crashing at their place and that means hot tub and lots of wine. So far it is 4 of us girls. The hot tub has a fantastic view of the city because the house and tub are up on a hill. I need to remember to bring the camera and take a picture.

Oh and for work early next year I have a choice of trips - Buffalo or Florida. My boss said it is my call but I can only pick one. I was hoping for Hawaii but they did that trip last month :( Dang the bad luck.

Part Blonde Tip # 102

Sorry boys but this is an underwear thing. Underwear that is made completely out of lace is very pretty and makes you feel very girly and sexy; however, it is a really uncomfortable thing to play softball in, or to wear for long periods of time. When trying to prove someone else wrong about lace underwear (which it turns out I was wrong about) do so on a day when you don't have sports to play that night.

Slowly But Surely

I am replacing all the clothes that I had from the past. I am doing this slowly because I am still not where I want to be weight wise and it's a slow process. I hardly took any clothes with me when I moved out in January and to look at my closet in the casa you'd think I still lived there. Almost everything in the closet is at least 2 sizes too big for me, which is a good thing. I think most of them were too big to start with.

I am now at the point where the first set of clothes I bought when I moved in with the roomie are too big as well. My plan is sometime this weekend to clean out my closet and take it to a battered woman's shelter. I still have a couple of my favorite pairs of pants from high school and my ultimate goal is to be able to wear them again.

This is on my mind as during the week my developer and I have been shopping at lunch. It's a good thing my budget is really flexible because we are bad influences on each other. Although she wouldn't let me get any black sweaters, so maybe it isn't all bad.

Men Are From Mars

So today at work there was a discussion around dating and when activities are appropriate. This was a very men are from Mars, women are from Venus discussion. It was highly entertaining for me personally as I tried to remain as quiet as possible. To give you an idea without naming the guilty or innocent:

Person 1: Holding hands is a definately by the 4th date thing, but by the 4th date sex is ok too.
Person 2: Depends on how often you are seeing them as far as 4th date and sex being ok.

Person 3: What about kissing?
Person 1: Oh that is like a dozen date thing.
Person 2: Wait that is like a 3rd, 4th or 5th date thing.
Person 3 to Person 1: Your kissing them at 4 months and having sex with them on the 4th date - that's a hooker.
Person 1: Maybe that's what I am doing wrong...

Part Blonde Tip #101

Don't try some new food that your probably not going to like right before you go out the door from work. Say you were going to try, oh I don't know, Wasabi Green Peas. Make sure you have a way to wash this taste from your mouth or at the very least remembered to replace your breath mints. This has been a tip from someone part blonde.

It's Wednesday Already?

That pretty much describes things today. Mom flew in for the weekend and back home yesterday. It was really nice to have her here, well except for her spoiling the child. I had to of course immediately impose on her to babysit Saturday night for me. I really wish sometimes that the parental units weren't so far away.

Let's see Sunday was ***Dave's musical and that was fantastic as always. KK was dancing in the pews and making all sorts of friends of the people around us. People couldn't believe how young she was as she was very well behaved and there were remarks about her having a natural talent for moving to the beat. After the play the consortium took us out for a yummy dinner.

Monday, we went to the aquarium and thankfully my softball game was cancelled as there was rain all day and it was fairly miserable as anyone watching Monday Night Football can probably understand. I would have gone and happily played in the rain but rain and cold is a bit much.

Updates: No update on the house yet. No sponsorship of the team for the turkey bowl. No babysitter lined up for Saturday night :(.

Oh and it's that time of year when I need to figure out if I a) get new glasses, b) go with contacts, or c) Opt for corrective surgery for my eyes. Input welcome :)

Jet Li - Fearless

I went out with some friends I hadn't seen in awhile and well I am sad that I don't see them more often, so I am going to have to fix that. We had a nice dinner and then hit the theatre and after a bit of discussion did end up seeing Fearless. And for the record it is really way to hard to find aspirin in a mall.

As for Fearless no real spoilers here, personally because I hate spoilers :). I was expecting an high on action but small on story and I was delighted that it was more crouching tiger than it was replacement killers. Violent movies that are violent just because they can be and not for any real story, just turn my stomach. This was a much better movie than I was expecting and if you like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon then I recommend it. The fight scenes were not as wire-fu as CTHD but they were a bit out there in a few places. For the most part just well done and beautiful. So go see it. From what I understand it's the last martial arts movie he is doing. One word of warning - it is subtitled.

Turkey Bowl Sponsor

I am trying to get my company to sponsor the softball team for the turkey bowl! I am going to find a way to make the thing happen even if it means talking everyone into paying to play. I'll have an answer tomorrow about the corporate sponsorship, which would be most excellent.

Turkey Bowl Softball

http://www.cityofgolden.net/Page.asp?NavID=642

I must talk my team into this! It sounds like a riot!

Only Wednesday?

I had it in my head last night and this morning that it should be Thursday. Which was disappointing and encouraging at the same time. I offered to take the ex to the airport on Saturday and worked it out so that my mom's flight should be arriving about the same time as I am dropping him off. I could do a happy dance as I get to see my mommy this weekend :). I bought her a plane ticket out here for her birthday. I made the same offer to my dad but he is valiantly deciding to stay home and care for the dog (who he doesn't like in the first place).

Oh and house update...They closed the property for offers on September 25th and the bank is taking 14 days to evaluate the offers they received. It's nice just to have a date when the waiting will be over, and while I want that house very much, I hate being in limbo. I feel like life is a bit on hold until I settle into my own place. I love the roomie and I love living with her and will miss her dearly, but I need more space for me and the wee one.

Tomorrow night I get to see some friends I haven't seen in awhile, and I have missed them. I think we are hitting the movies. Has anyone seen the new Jet Li flick? I think that's likely where we are headed.

What a Weekend!

Turns out that the softball team building turned more into people going to the beerfest instead. I was left at the place with a girl I don't know very well and we decided to make an evening of it. She is -- what is a polite term? Wild? Crazy? I had fun watching her and just wondering what she was going to say next.

Saturday was the wedding in Lafayette. Graciously the roomie let me skip that part and just attend the reception in Boulder. It was a very good time and when the dj finally packed it in at 11 a group of die-hards ( yes I was along because I didn't want the roomie downtown with a few strange men) hit Pearl Street bars and dance clubs. I believe we went to about 6 in total until 2 am. As a side note dancing from 8 pm until 2 am is really hard on your feet :). That should make softball tonight really extra special.

I have been in more meetings today than the last 6 months combined. I didn't mind the last one so much as it was more of a private birthday party for a co-worker where our boss made her some homemade ice cream. It was hands down the best homemade ice cream I have ever tasted. Vanilla ice cream with cherry cheesecake and grahamcracker crust all mixed in. As an idea of how good it was, the chocolate/chocolate cupcakes went ignored. We normally put leftovers out in the kitchen but with the ice cream we threatened a bloody coo should she suggest it. It was very close to the birthday cake ice cream - not quite as good but scary close and well made by my boss.
