Little Helper

I finally decided that I was never going to get my towel rack put together if I kept trying to do it when KK wasn't here. So yesterday along with many other things, it was assembled and put together. I was of course only allowed to use the screwdriver under her assistance or not at all.

Cliche of the Day

Beg the question

A point of logic originally raised by Aristotle, it became a Latin proverb:"Petitio principii," meaning "to beg the main point" (or "assume without proof").

Breathe - Just Breathe

Yesterday I had one of those horrible moments where you think you have everything figured out and you're about to pat yourself on the back when someone then throws you a curve and demands that you juggle it and laughs. The trip to Buffalo was almost postponed due to the client not doing the things they needed to do. I have this wonderful trip planned both before and after the Buffalo job thing so needless to say I ...um....freaked out a bit and well thankfully the client wanted the trip to happen so they now have things in order.

Order, breathing, how is the house going? I don't have everything out of the casa yet. I don't have every box put away. I have the kitchen almost usable but I am still missing some important things. My bedroom furniture is great but the room itself looks like .... a bomb exploded? I am still needing to buy a couch and living room furniture, a tv, surround sound system, new locks for the doors.

I haven't put in the new thermostat in yet. It involves bounding over the snow drifts that are past waist high a couple times to turn the power off then installing the thing and repeating as necessary until I have it wired correctly. Your guess is as good as mine as to how many times that would take. I think I wired the one in the casa last time but I can't remember for certain.

And what does it mean when suddenly bananas sound good in everything you seem to want to bake?

Racquetball? Yeah I can do that.

Or at least I could when I was in college... Oh sure I was more athletic back then and weighed less. Although I am closer than I have been in a long time to getting back there - only 20 pounds to go or so. I am the queen of digression today, seriously! So the girl who organized the bowling league mentioned the boys have been either taking it easy on her or really letting her have it in racquetball, and she asked if I ever played. I said I did back in college and so she wants to play me for awhile while she learns. I told her sure but that I am probably horrible at it - I get this invite from one of the boys:

Racquetball Girlie Style (boys hit like wussies)

I really enjoy the people I work with. They amuse me to no end at times.

Bowling League

It is a really fun time after work. It makes my Monday at work a really long day, but we have so much fun that it is worth it. I did order bowling shoes yesterday morning before work. I had time between when I was ready and when KK decided she'd slept enough. Why is it that she rarely sleeps that long on the weekend, but I digress. Last night I bowled my highest game ever - 172. Yes I know it isn't anywhere near 300 but it's something I have never done before. I will miss being gone the next couple weeks but I found a sweet 12 year old who is going to fill in for me. I am very sorry to miss seeing her bowl.

Oh and now I should really check on softball so that we don't get stuck in the league that is one level above where we should be playing at. If I will spring to be here, will that make it arrive sooner?

Parking Lot at Work Today

Seriously wondering if Buffalo will be warmer and that is such a horrible thought.

That is a white station wagon to the left of the drift for reference on how high the piles we have are.

I apologize to winter for mocking your powers and saying they are weak in Colorado. Now can I please have my 60 degree days back!

Save Yourself and Those You Like....

I went out Friday night with Angie and well we made a horribly depressing mistake. I am actually getting to the punch line before the story so let me rewind......I didn't get out of work until late for me on Friday. I met Angie at the Elephant Bar, which oddly enough is a swank restaurant not really a bar. We split an appetizer and dessert and the food was quite good.

We then headed to the theater, which is across the parking lot, and decided on the Pursuit of Happyness. Let me say this - I love happy feel good movies. I love light hearted comedies. If it has happyness in the title shouldn't it be one of these? I won't do a spoiler. Should you be feeling really good about your life, and want the will to live sucked out of you, spat upon and jumped up and down on then this is the movie for you!

We were going to go meet up with some others after the movie and I was so depressed I wanted to curl up in a corner and just cry. I wanted to hug my daughter and make her all sorts of promises. There is so little happyness and feel good in this movie that I feel cheated having spent two hours watching it. When this dvd ends up in the 99 cent bin -- Don't buy it you are still going to feel ripped off.

Cliche of the Day!

(put) in one's black book
The term comes from actual listings of those to be censured or punished by the authorities, a practice which dates from the15th century. Today, however, one's "little black book" may signify a personal address book listing telephone numbers of the opposite sex.

Cliche of the Day

(This is) the beginning of the end

The origin is generally acknowledged to be a statement made by Talleyrand to Napolean I after losing the battle of Leipzig ( 1813), "C'est le commencement de la fin."

Can't Resist -- Quote of the Day!

I can't stand makeup commercials. Do you need a lipstick that keeps your lips kissable? No, I need a lipstick that gets me equal pay for equal work. How about an eye shadow that makes me stop thinking I'm too fat?

Buffalo For Warmth?

Yesterday I got my tickets to Buffalo, well actually I have this circle trip thing from Denver to Syracuse, then Buffalo to New Hampshire, finally New Hampshire to Denver. Wait how am I getting from Syracuse to Buffalo? I am taking the train. Maybe I am just easily amused but it seemed like fun and the benefit of not having to know where I am going in a rental car is just icing. Yes I am directionally dysfunctional and I am ok with it. I am also a spoiled brat who is used to driving a 4 wheel drive vehicle in the snow and isn't sure she likes the idea of a car in NE in winter. Holy moly I just realized I bought the 4runner 7 years ago. Which means it has been 7 years since I have driven a car in the snow -- I think I'll pass if I can :)

But wait there's more! Oddly enough there are two other people going to Buffalo but they are not having a tour of the NE they are going just from here to there and back again. My ticket is only $35 more than theirs. *HAPPY DANCE*. It was going to be $98 more but then they wanted a different flight time back and when they went to book it the price had gone up but I had booked mine right away. So I have to pay the difference, but I am cool with that.

When I talked to the people in Buffalo last week they were actually quite a bit warmer than us, and can I just say how wrong that is? The last couple weeks have done a great job reminding me why I left South Dakota. When your windshield wiper fluid freezes to the windshield that just should be uninhabitable land. It definitely doesn't belong in my beloved Colorado.

I am still working on getting moved in. Many thanks to Doyce who came over last night and helped me get KK's room ready and get her crib moved into the room. I love the crib I got it was really easy to disassemble and reassemble. I am not sure I love the bedding she has but I was going for the girly room and egad is that stuff girly. I have one wall to still get the border up on and after I have that up I'll post some pictures up.

I still don't have a couch or a real sized tv yet, but thankfully I still have some budget left for those things. I need to measure my dining room and check into a table. I need to see if the one I want will fit there, but I am waiting to get the living room done first.

I feel like I still have a million things to do on my list, so I might be a bit more scattered than normal...fear me :)

Cliche of the Day

Basket Case

This term dates from World War I, when it denoted a soldier who had lost both arms and legs and had to be carried off the field in a basket or litter.

Ok yes that's just depressing but so is Tuesday after a holiday!

Cliche of the Day

Baker's Dozen

The source of this term is a law passed by the English Parliament in 1266, which specified exactly how much a loaf of bread should weigh, and imposed a heavy penalty for short weight. To protect themselves, bakers would give their customers 13 loaves instead of 12, and in the 16th century this came to be called, " A baker's dozen."

Crappy Day

So yesterday the parent company announced a closure of an office in New York. This caused us all to wonder what was going to happen to us - today we found out - 10% layoff. They were going to spend today notifying people but I won't know for sure until they send out an email notifying us that all affected have been notified.

Barking up the wrong tree.

The term comes from the 1820's, when raccoon-hunting was a popular American pastime. Raccoons are nocturnal animals, generally hunted on moonlit nights with the help of trained hounds. Sometimes the dogs are fooled, and they crowd around a tree barking loudly to announce that they have treed the raccoon, when it has, in fact, eluded them.

A Three Day Weekend of Moving

I started with the first load on Wednesday night, and I did another one on Thursday. Friday was to be snowy and crappy so I took the day off and decided to move as much as I could and as school was cancelled in the region the roomie was a doll and helped me. We got 3 or 4 loads done, and by the time the evening rolled around I was beat. I wish I had been able to sleep better, but new noises and being all alone my mind played horrible tricks on me. Saturday morning bright and early the cable guy showed up and I now have high speed internet and basic cable! I have very much missed high speed internet.

Then big brother showed up and we went off to fetch my mattress and box springs, and another trip for my desk. During the second trip the roomie was at the townhouse and the fridge, washer and dryer were delivered. While we were also out moving she assembled my bathroom cabinet and bookshelves for KK's room. She also got KK's room prepped for painting so thus I did owe her big and took her to the Melting Pot which I already blogged about but it was a riot. I picked up KK on my way home because Doyce needed a break from being daddy. This was very clear by his frazzled appearance and tone.

Sunday very bright and early - 8 am my 6 pieces of furnature arrived! The two guys took my bedset upstairs and completely assembled it. Shortly after they had come and gone the roomie showed up and painted KK's room while I tried to keep her out of the room. After her second time of putting her hand on the wall and bringing it away with paint on it and smiling a new direction was needed. I gave her a tiny roller and she put it on the wall and then on the back of my shirt. So needless to say a baby gate went up and the roomie was left to paint by herself.

I tried to put things away while KK tried hard to make things a mess. She had more success than I did. When she left at 2:30 I was off to home depot for some more paint to do another coat and some essentials. I got home and finished the room and then just relaxed for a bit.

So tonight is the first night since I could move that I won't be doing anything move wise, well probably :). Tonight is the first night of the new bowling league for work. I am going to have to trim my nails so they don't break.

The term originated with fishmongers who thus described their wares, meaning that they were extremely fresh.

House, Vacation and Various Tid Bits.

As I am sure most of you read ***Dave's blog about my adventure in buying my house. I was supposed to close on the 27th and have a bit of time to move in some things, then fly out to Cali on the 28th. Yeah best laid plans and all that. I ended up at the title company at 10:55 and by 11:10 they had not come into the room yet. I went out and made the announcement that if I wasn't done signing papers by 11:50 I would be done signing them and walk out. It was already snowing at this point it started somewhere around 9:30. Apparently they took me seriously because within two minutes someone came in with a ton of papers for me to sign.

I was really happy to be flying United and despite them losing my bags in Omaha on a direct flight last time I flew them round trip. I have little to complain about in regards to them. I showed up at the airport 2 hours before my flight and actually made it so I was quite pleased. I am sure that is who we will fly on the fun work trip to Buffalo in February. Stop laughing. I get the fun trips - Atlanta in August, Buffalo in February.

I spent almost a week in California but it really didn't seem like that long. The Consortium has the right of it when they say it ( California) is like fairy where time is just different out there. I love Margie's parents house. I could stay there with them a long time happily. I mean there's a pool in the yard - what else could you ask for? I did however gain far too much weight out there but I don't expect it to stay on long. The flight home was wonderful as I was upgraded to a seat with more leg room and KK feel asleep on my lap a half hour into the flight and was sleeping until we landed. She is talking and is becoming quite understandable. One of her first clear phrases - It's cool mom. This said as she was playing on the stairs.

I am still moving in to my new place, but Huzzah! I have my internet connection now. Cable modem good. I haven't had much time to play with it today but it is here. Tomorrow there are 6 pieces of furniture being delivered and I am quite excited well as excited as one can be while also being utterly exhausted.

The roomie has been fantastic throughout all of this. Yesterday she helped me move the futon and a few other things in and today she was assembly girl. She got pretty ticked off at the bookshelves in KK's room and told me I was taking her somewhere nice for lunch. The Big Brother I Never Wanted brought his truck and we got my mattress and springs, and in another trip my desk loaded and moved into the new place. He got a beer because he had a date for dinner.

I took the roomie to the Melting Pot where we had a riot. We sat in the new seating section which has some fantastic table tops and was really quite private. Here's a new one for me - the waiter asks what I do for a living - I tell him and his eyes glaze over - roomie translates to 'she works with computers'. He prompted tells me he has a virus. I laughed. I laughed loud and hard not at him but just because when does a man ever say something like that? We had a great time and part of our fun was calling him a different wrong name each time he came to the table. He decided to start calling her Shelly and me Jennifer. We were having such a good time that other waiters started to come to our table to chat. Yeah sometimes I want to kick 'Shelly' for how pretty she is, but it was just a nice change from Friday when twice we were mistaken for a 'couple'.
