Quote of the Day

Why is it that everything painful to women begins with the male gender: men-opause, men-tal illness, men-strual cycle and hys-terectomy?

Well...

The 'men' in menopause comes from the French 'meno' which actually does mean man...

The 'men' in mental illness comes from the Latin 'ment' or 'mens' for mind, and further back the 'menos' for spirit.

'hysterectomy' is literally the 'cutting off of hysteria' which goes back to the Greek 'hysterikos' which was their notion that inbalances in the womb ( 'hystera' in Greek ) could cause women to be come.. uhm.. unreasonable.

So, what I am saying is, don't blame men in general for these things... Blame the latin, french, and greek speaking men of the world for them!

On that note.

From the little bit of french I had to learn. The nouns are all gender based, and unlike the very sensible Germans, with their "it", in french it is either male or female.

The funny bit was, if you ever had a doubt as to what the gender of an item was...if it was good, it was male, if not, female.
